The Whole Person Assessment is a process of slowing down to take a look at how God designed you to reflect him as a whole person. It is intended to be a rich time of listening to God, an opportunity to step back from your daily routine and look at the big picture of how God made you and wrote your story for a purpose. As your roots grow deeper and deeper into his life, he will empower you to live out the service he has called you to, with the people that he places around you.
The WPA brings together 5 assessments to help you understand how you were created to love God and your neighbours as a whole person. These assessments are delivered by a WPA Facilitator and can be done step by step or all as one package, depending on your needs.
Through the process, we look at your values (what’s in your heart), and we use the PREP Profile to explore how God has designed your personality traits, problem solving style, and communication preferences (your head). We explore your spiritual gifts and your contributions to a team (your hands). In the Life Map, you’ll reflect on how God has worked in your life and is shaping you over time. We’ll then put these all together into a summary so you can articulate your unique redemptive contribution to God’s Kingdom, and then formulate some actionable next steps.
‘And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.‘ Mark 12:30-31
Each WPA is a unique process of receiving from God. It does not just use personal assessments to see what the different parts of you are like. It uses a scriptural perspective to understand these assessments – how the different parts of you work together to reflect Jesus’ own character. This is who you really are.
As you and your facilitator uncover the themes of how God made you to reflect him, you will begin to see the broad strokes of how to more deeply live into your identity. This is your calling.
The WPA results in a summary of your whole personal profile and of steps you can take to live out who God made you to be as a reflection of him.
Anyone! The WPA serves anyone who is interested in looking more deeply at their identity. It is often helpful for those who are in the process of making a decision about their life direction or career choices, or who are processing questions about their identity. It is also helpful for members of small teams who want to take a deep dive into how to spiritually and functionally collaborate together to accomplish what God has given them to do.
The WPA begins with taking a look at various parts of who you are using 5 personal assessments. After you complete the assessments, the interpretation process begins where prayerful discernment uncovers the themes of how you personally and holistically reflect God’s own character. This involves an inductive analysis process. completed either by your trained WPA facilitator who will then present it to you, or together along with your coach over the course of several coaching sessions. The last stage is summarizing your calling and the next steps you’ll take to live into God’s own character in your identity.
After contacting a trained WPA facilitator or coach, your WPA journey starts with customizing your WPA. You can choose from 2 formats:
involves a series of coaching sessions with a WPA coach to complete the assessments and interpret them together. This is primarily helpful for those who prefer to take time to process the deep details of their identity and calling and to set goals and targets with a trained coach.
involves a 2-hour debrief session with a WPA facilitator after you finish the assessments. This is primarily helpful for those who prefer to hear the big-picture vision of their calling and quickly start living out the implications rather than spend time processing each piece.
In the Values Sorter you rank a set of values according to your ideal preferences to describe your top heart motivators.
The PREP Personality profile is a rigorously-validated personality profile tool that helps describe your general disposition, communication style and decision-making style.
In the Practical Roles inventory you rate a series of statements about work tasks on a scale of 1-5 to determine the top skills that you can most easily and most often perform.
In the Spiritual Gifts inventory you rate a series of statements about spiritual tasks on a scale of 1-5 to determine the top spiritual gifts that you use most easily and most often.
The Life Map is an opportunity for you to share an overview of critical events and experiences in your life personally, professionally, and spiritually to describe your journey up to this point.
Inductive analysis is a practice that uses objective observation to understand the source material or situation. First, the elements of the source material or situation are noted and objective descriptions are made. Next, an interpretation of the observations is built by synthesizing the themes, repetitions, contrasts, connections, and structural elements in the source material. Lastly the conclusions of the interpretation are applied through an implementation plan.
The WPA uses prayerful, Holy-Spirit guided inductive analysis to understand the human and spiritual realities of identity. By observing your traits and interpreting them from a scriptural perspective, the WPA enables you to hear from God about yourself. Then the application is your chance to step out in faith into what God has shown you!
The WPA has been developed and fine-tuned over the course of 35 years. It was adapted loosely in 1990 from an assessment developed by the Navigators called “Mapping Your Lifework.” Each of the personal assessments used in the WPA are industry-standard, developed by highly experienced and credentialed experts, and are well-validated with over 50,000 instances of use. The WPA itself has been in use for over 30 years, with roughly 1,500 facilitations.
WPA facilitators are people who are called to encourage and empower you in your journey of following God in the marketplace. We do this by helping you listen to him to receive your redeemed identity-in-Christ, articulate your unique contributions to God’s Kingdom, and create action plans to consistently follow God’s leading in the work he has given you to do.
We work in a variety of marketplace contexts as coaches, consultants, educators, organizational and community developers, and researchers, all trained in WPA facilitation. The WPA training is an intentional mentorship-based process that uses Scripture studies on revelation, identity, calling, transformation, and faith to form internal foundations in each facilitator for the external technical skills that are required to facilitate WPAs.
